Although based at the Baptist Church, Non-Christian members of the community are equally welcome to train as mentors. Adults in the community, on a purely voluntary basis, help and support youngsters in the community. The whole purpose of the project is to help youngsters who have "fallen off the track" get back on to it and make progress. Adults from all the churches in Saffron Walden have trained as mentors for youngsters at the County High School and the Joyce Frankland Academy who are struggling with school, with home and possibly with family. Having completed training and appropriate safeguarding checks, mentors are matched with mentees and support them for 18 months. This arrangement involves the agreement of the school and the family for the benefit of the young person.
